Centre for Nineteenth-Century Studies Reading Group - Happy New Academic Year

I would like to greet everyone and say that last year had been a fruitful year for the Nineteenth-century Studies Centre, and its new reading group! After discussing the reading group form and schedule, we would meet once a month to share ideas on a variety of literary (and other) topics related to the subject of the senses and the long nineteenth century. Each group member was the leader of an individual session, and in charge of material selection for discussion. I have got to express my fascination at how much I learned from the multifarious aspects of the texts that unfolded during the meetings!

I strongly recommend anyone who is interested in the long nineteenth century join the reading group, not just because so much more is explored through the interaction of viewpoints, but also because the reading group provides a relaxing and friendly atmosphere with which to converse with and learn more about fellow scholars and nineteenth-century enthusiasts. We have so much fun at the sessions, and the discussion happens in a casual, warm environment where refreshments are available and anyone who wants to join is welcome! The more the merrier!

I also want to welcome you to the Centre for Nineteenth-Century Studies blog, which has largely been inactive in the last months due to its being set up. This year, new and exciting posts will be included, which concern ongoing reading group session announcements and summaries, as well as new posts from whoever is interested in telling us more about what they are working on, and/or write an article/piece on any aspects of the long nineteenth century. All contributions are more than welcome, and if you want to contact the Centre for this you can send an email to ekarampela1@sheffield.ac.uk.

Last but not least, I want to thank you all for your continuous support and the keen interest you show for the Centre. The team is amazing and I would really like to invite you all to be a part of it!
